In the old days, during the Soviet Union, the Russians used to make fun of Moldovans - it was their equivalent of rednecks or hillbillies.

Today, things are not much better: since independence the world seems to have forgotten all about Moldova.

Ethnically, Moldovans are very close to Romanians. You could speak Romanian, and a Moldovan would understand you perfectly well.

Some say, the best future for this little country would be if it joined Romania - with the exception of Transdnister (a sliver on the East of the country, with a sizeable Russian population and military presence).
